Canon FL 55mm f/1.2 + Sony A7II

For some strange reason; unlike when used with the Olympus E-M1, I am really digging the look the Canon 55 f/1.2 is giving me when used with the A7II at wide-open or near wide-open apertures. I will not bother you with a lot of writing. Instead, I will leave you with a few of my favorite pictures taken a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy.

First outing with the Sony A7 II and the Zeiss 55 f/1.8

I traveled on a one-day trip to Alexandria with a few of my close friends, and it was the perfect chance to get familiar with the new A7 Mark II and the Zeiss FE 55 f/1.8.

You can consider this post as a quick hands-on post on the A7II + Zeiss 55 combo. A first in a series of posts to cover all my impressions on the A7II specifically, and a few lenses along the way.

The 200L is back

Just sharing with you the very first test photo I took with the 200L (wide-open) and my A7II. The image was shot with zero ambient light, and a single manual flash bounced from the wall/ceiling to the camera right. The flash power was metered once before actually taking pictures via a light meter.

I bought a Commlite Canon EF to Sony E-Mount adapter to be able to use Canon lenses on my A7. The adapter has electronic contacts between the camera and the lens, and supports: aperture control via the camera, auto-focus (slooow but 100% accurate, same speed as live view focusing on older Canon bodies), EXIF data so the IBIS is adjusted automatically, and I think it will support stabilization in images with IS.

The adapter is solidly built, but feels quite heavy at 124 grams. The fit is perfect on both ends, if a little tight on the Canon mount side. Here's how it looks like:

Full Frame Is Back

Thanks to BoEing shop in Kuala Lumpur, I got this A7 II for a really great price, and was surprised at the extra items they added: a 94 MB/s UHS-I 16 GB Sony SD Card and a very neat Sony bag which I shall review later.

You can notice a 95 MB/s UHS-I 32 GB Transcend card which I got for the camera before I knew they would give me an extra card. And that adapter is a Canon FD to Sony E-mount adapter to use my Canon FL 55mm f/1.2.

Exciting times ahead. More to come soon.
