Merely installing LR 4.3 will not change your images. Instead you have to change the camera profile from beta to one of the other profiles.
Beta raw support:
Adobe Standard:
Camera Standard:
Camera Neutral:
The most accurate looking one, to my eyes, is Camera Neutral. A huge improvement over the beta raw support's garish pinks.

Yes, a big improvement over the beta camera profile. I recently bought a set of custom profiles for D600 from http://colorfidelity.com/ that I find to be even better than the new Adobe profiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info John. I wasn't aware of that company. I'll check it out.
DeleteBest regards,
Mic
Mic Ty can you please post some examples with that companies profile with Adobe and Camera Standart in LR?
DeleteOk check back in a day or two.

I am assuming profile created by yourself using X-Rite Color Checker Passport would be more accurate than buying from third party. Color rendering would be different from camera to camera after all, even for the same model. Am I right?
DeleteHi Xiaoli. I have no personal experience with the X-Rite, though my brother-in-law has one and it seems to be good at neutralizing color tints, judging by shots that he took under the same conditions that I did.
DeleteI don't know whether X-Rite would supersede the need for a 'better' camera profile. It might - I don't know. I do know that the ColorFidelity profiles affect not just the hue of the colors but also the contrast and tone curve for each color. I don't know if the X-Rite affects those variables as well.

"Instead you have to change the camera profile from beta to one of the other profiles."
ReplyDeleteI don't understand this comment. My 4.3RC never said "beta" for any profiles.
Any of the named profiles listed above were available, with the default being "Adobe Standard."
So, if I am happy with Adobe Standard, do I need to do anything to see the rendering supplied with the official 4.3 release with past and/or future images?
Thanks.
Sorry, I should have clarified that I was talking about your previous images. If you have D600 shots that were imported under LR 4.2, the camera profile will be beta and will stay that way after upgrading to LR 4.3. However, if you choose, you can change from beta to some other profile.
DeleteUpon importing shots to LR 4.3, they will show Adobe Standard, not beta. In fact, the beta profile won't be available.
As for switching from Adobe Standard, it's a matter of personal preference. As for me, I think the reds are still a little exaggerated (though less so than the beta profile), but that's just my opinion.
Best regards,
Mic
Thanks for the reply. I see now that you were refering to upgrading from 4.2. I started with 4.3RC, so never had the "beta" profile you refer to. As for which one to choose, Adobe Standard looks fine for the type of photography I do. Camera Neutral is a bit lacking in contrast for me. They are all just starting points anyway! Cheers.
DeleteI'm only sorry, still no D600 tethering support.
