Nikon SB-800 head modification - live!

Normally, the Nikon SB-800's head cannot turn more than 90 degrees to the right.  You may have seen a modification where the head is forced to turn an additional 45 degrees.  Sometimes it works.  Sometimes the flash dies.  In this video, I do the modification "live."   To find out if my SB-800 survived, watch the video...

Please note: the Nikon SB-910, SB-900 and SB-700 can all rotate 180 degrees in both directions, so there is no reason to risk this modification to your SB-800, except if you absolutely need the most powerful speedlight available.  (To date, the SB-800 is still Nikon's most powerful flash.)

Moreover, forcing the head to turn is probably riskier than doing surgery on the SB-800 to accomplish the same objective.
