I find I'm often so taken up with getting the shot I had in mind that I'm not open to new opportunities to try something that might give a better result. Or worse I'm too focussed on one aspect of it that I forget about some more basic thing like a setting or composition. I wish I could say that I thought ...Thanks TeaDad! I wish I could say that I thought of it beforehand, but actually it was just something I discovered by accident. I was having a hard time focusing on the kids because of the net (plus they were bouncing a lot), so I used manual focus.
