I tested the autofocus speed of the Olympus Stylus 1 (reviewed here), comparing it with the AF speed of an Olympus E-P5, with a Panasonic 20 1.7 II and an Olympus 45 1.8. My method was to alternate focusing between a target 3 feet away, and another target around 6 feet away. I measured the amount of time it took me to focus 30 times, alternating between these targets. DeleteAbout the rx1, i really liked it (i hope you saw the review) but the af speed was not adequate for my primary subject - my kids. I'm hoping that the next version will have hybrid af which would make it much more practical for my kind of shooting.

Yup, I read all your posts on the RX1, and I can relate to many of your experiences with it. Indeed the AF speed is somewhat of a pain, I face similar difficulties getting consistent properly focused shots with my niece and nephew, and the shallow DOF just makes it more challenging.
DeleteYes it's too bad because purely in terms of image quality it is my current favorite camera and lens combination. Hopefully they can pair it with a better AF mechanism next time. If not, I can also hope to buy an A7 with 35 2.8 in the far future when used prices have dropped :) (I've only tried the A7 at a story but it seems to focus significantly faster than the RX1 and plus it has eye detection).
